The Lie has been embraced by many. Many have fallen prey to the Lie. The Lie is so powerful that it has forever altered the course of history. The Lie is responsible for the plight of man. And while man is responsible for his own actions, the action of embracing the Lie has forever altered the destiny of many a man.
What is this Lie that I keep referring to? The Lie is simply this: "You can be your own authority." "You can be sovereign unto yourself." This is the Lie that Satan embraced and the reason he fell from grace. This is the Lie that Satan whispered to Eve in the garden. This is the Lie that Eve shared with Adam. This is the Lie that he embraced as truth. This is the Lie that has enslaved men from the beginning. This is the Lie that enslaves men still today. And this Lie will enslave many a man for eternity.
Satan believed that he could usurp true, lawful authority with power. He organized a coup within the heavenlies to overpower the one true sovereign - God. The Lie he believed would allow him to overpower the all-powerful God. Once overpowered, God would naturally relinquish His claim to authority over Satan - according to the Lie. All Satan had to do was gather enough power unto himself to become more powerful than God. Satan knew that he did not have enough power in and of himself to overthrow the King, but maybe the combined strength and power of one third of his kind would be enough. Surely - right?
There is, however, a major fallacy in Satan's logic. Sure it sounds good and even makes sense, but not when you're talking about God. You see there is no way that Satan could ever gain more power than the King who is ALL POWERFUL. No matter how much collective power Satan gathers unto himself, it will never even equal the power that God possesses. Satan will never be able to over-power the King, and therefore never obtain His authority. God alone is absolutely sovereign. He can be challenged, but not defeated. He will not be mocked, and men are reaping what they have sown.
Sadly, men have embraced the Lie whispered in the garden. That they have the power in and of themselves to be or create their own gods. That they can be their own authority. Sovereign unto themselves. That they can determine their own reality and fate apart from God. This is the plight of man.
