So, you'd like to have authority over something? Anything! Even if it's just yourself, you'd like to have some right to say what you can or can't do. What you have to do, and what you don't. Where can you get authority?
Authority naturally flows from power. Let's say there are two men in a room. Naturally the one with the authority would be the stronger. The one with more power. However, let's say the weaker man in the room, has received authority from an even stronger man outside the room. In this instance, the person with the most power in the room does not have authority over the weaker man.
In order to have true authority over something or someone, you have to possess the power to make sure your will is accomplished. If you can't assert your authority to see your will done, the logical conclusion must be that you are weak. That you lack power. And if you don't have power, you don't have authority.
But, there's something else you must understand about authority. Authority can only be received. It cannot be taken, stolen or usurped. So how does one get true authority? - you receive it.
