Authority Flows Down

True authority always flows downward. It starts with God, and flows downward. It can never flow up. Think about it, God cannot authorize anything or anyone to have power or authority over Himself. He has all power and authority, so the mere thought is incredulous. He cannot give someone more of something than He has, and he holds all power and authority.

God gave authority to His Son, and the Son gave authority to His disciples. That authority has been flowing downward ever since. God gave authority to parents, and then they give that authority to their children. Authority goes on and on, but it always goes back to God.

You cannot give someone authority over you, because you cannot give someone more authority over yourself, than you yourself hold. You can give someone power over you, but you cannot give them authority over you. If you give them authority, it flows downward.

This is why it is preposterous to think, that "We The People" could get together and combine our power to give the government authority over us. We cannot give the state more authority over ourselves than we hold in and of ourselves. However we can give the government power over us.

Power can move apart from recognizing God, but lawful authority cannot. God is sovereign over all, and power of men is simply an illusion. The authority gained from that power is simply an illusion as well. It is an illusion, because God has never abdicated His throne. He has not relinquished His power and authority over all.
